Default display subcategory name under thumbnails

I'd like to display the associated subcategory name under the product thumbnails on the products page and the featured products dialogue. I think I need to edit customer/main/products_t.tpl, but I'm not seeing a way to link the subcategory name. Any ideas?

*bump*

(at this point I'm assuming that the shoddy mysql database is to blame for this being not possible without some MAJOR hacks... funny how something so simple could be so broken)

Are you basically looking for an extra link, so as well as a link to the actual product, you can link to its subcategory as well to show "more like this" or something?

When I started working with X-Cart, I was under the impression I didn't have to know sql queries. This is not a criticism to you... perhaps to marketing.

Then again, my clients are asking for a site that widely deviates fromt the default X-Cart look (I didn't buy the software, they did, before they hired me), so I understand how it would be more work. I do have an associate who could probably do this... is there something specific you can tell me that would address this particular situation?

It doesn't have to be a link, just the name of main subcategory. So if a product is in multiple categories, it would only list the first one (which, if the database is arranged how I think it is, could be impossible to identify). It could be a link, that certainly wouldn't hurt.

I'll explain further... my clients sell hand-dyed yarn. The yarn can be categorized by color or by fiber content, so they actually want a color category and a fiber category, both with the same inventory. The color category is chosen secondary in the product page admin interface. I'd like the yarn balls on the product thumbnail page in the color category to display the *fiber* subcategory name, not just the color name, because there is more than one type of fiber in each color. Confused?

Right now I've decided to go through all the spreadsheets and add the subcategory name to the actual product name. The unfortunate thing about this solution is I can't get the name to show up on two lines, breaking at the proper spot.

If anyone has any real solution to this, I'd be deeply grateful.
