404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
I have installed dokuwiki and simpleforum on my site and they are in the same directory as the rest of xcart, just in different subfolders obviously (wiki and forum)
When I try to connect to them, typing the URL, I get a 404 error saying the page does not exist, when I know it does!! I have managed to get to the wiki with the exact path /wiki/doku.php but it "should" work when you just go to /wiki/ - it doesn't The forum does not work at all even if I go to the exact address which is /forum/simpleforum.cgi I'm sure theres a simple reason for this. Any reccomendations on a fix? I can easily move the forum and wiki elsewhere if it would help? Would be nice to understand the reason xcart is doing this anyway. |

Re: 404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
It's probably due to your xcart .htaccess file having
DirectoryIndex home.php, (insert other files) Make a new .htaccess in both sub-folders and make the directory index their respective index pages which are likely index.php The .htaccess in the top level directory works on all subfolders without one. |

Re: 404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
Nice one, I had tried that, but obviously not very well.
Its worked on the wiki, but the .htaccess file won't seem to accept making simpleforum.cgi (the file I need to get to) the home page for the forum. Maybe I could use a php include on home.php which currently doesn't exist. That possible?! |

Nope, can't seem to get simpleforum.cgi to run.
I've tried include and virtual fuctions in a php file. |

Erm, I don't know about you but I can access http://www.shetlandmarket.com/forum/ and go to the forum index. Did you change anything perhaps? The footer also says punbb, and the index page is index.php so is that the wrong forum URL? |

Re: 404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
Well since it seemed to be a problem with the site allowing access to cgi's and I've tried about 10 different methods to allow them, I concluded the easiest option was just to use a non-cgi forum!!
Job done. I'd still like to know why there was an issue, but I have a site to launch in 48 hours - eek! |

Re: 404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
Well, glad you sort of solved your problem... :P
PunBB isn't that great of a forum though, and I've never heard of simpleforum. The top forums are vBulletin, SMF, phpBB and IPB. From best to worst too. vBulletin is paid like $120 or $180 for a single site though |

Re: 404 Error form custom pages (wiki, forum etc)
I just searched for simple forums! I use Teemz on another site of mine and although it'd probably be classed as "shocking" by most developers, it works quite well just because its simple. (Teemz is cgi though)
punBB seems to be basic enough - took me about 2 mins to set up and has more than enough features for what I need. |
