I wonder if there is a possibility to add a search field to search within a category? I.e. the user browses Apparel and now sees a search field only for this category.

You could copy the normal search code and add the line for category as a hidden field, assigning the current category {$cat} or {$current_category.categoryid}. See the code on search.php for the category selector.

Ok, I try that. It's strange that there are no posts on such a huge feature.

I agree, building searches like this so the customer doesn't have to go to the advanced search screen and select the category from the dropdown would be a great feature.

When you get this working will you share?

I would love to provide some more targeted search boxes next to our global search on our homepage, like a separate box that you could type keywords in and it said "Search in Sheet Music" as the button.
