NO...it was a disaster...I have become so comfortable with upgrades and their ease that I didn't backup before doing the upgrade on one of my four XC-5.2.13 sites.

I was at first shocked at the sheer amount of updated modules...around 30 of them.

This is unheard of, usually its 2 or 3 modules at a time.

I suspect that the structural changes in 5.2.14 must require many modules to change in order to be compatible.

So, I did the upgrade of all the modules and the Core at once and it was a complete failure. The site went down and it couldn't even read the home page or the admin page. I had to restore from the last backup dated 30 days ago.

After 12 hours of struggling with this, I was able to figure out that I could install only '1' updated module at a time by using the 'advanced' and deselecting all of the other modules. After installing the modules one at a time, it would come of the the stupid 'OOPS' message, but after refreshing the page it would work and I could then select another single module and upgrade it.

After hours of updating the modules one at a time, finally I am down to two modules that simply will NOT update for some strange reason:

Simple CMS and Webmaster Kit.

If I try to upgrade them individually in the 'advanced mode' it simply does not take the upgrade.

and if I do them together it says this:

These components require your attention

These modules may be incompatible with the upcoming upgrade. We do not guarantee that the store will operate correctly if the modules remain enabled. Please consider disabling the modules before you proceed to the next step.

So I cannot understand that those core modules are 'incompatible' with 1/2 of the other core modules? This is crazy...what are we supposed to do?

This has been a terrible upgrade and I am now at a loss what to do with my three other 5.2.13 installations.

please advise...

I unpacked into the /dev, no problem.
Then I copied the original database and made a new name for it, ocha_xc5214.
Then I changed etc/config.php following values:
database = "ocha_xc5214"
web_dir = "/dev"

After that, I tried to go to admin of development copy ( https://www.xyz.com/dev/admin.php?target=login ) and the site comes up, but I get a "page not found" for the admin….

I think I need to make some change to htaccess, but it's confusing - do I have to change the root htacess? The htaccess copy under the /dev?

Hi,

I do not use XC5 (Yet) so only have a dev copy.

In my .htaccess two lines jump out - perhaps these apply to you?

1/
Options -Indexes
DirectoryIndex cart.php index.php
FileETag none
ErrorDocument 404 /MYSUBDIRECTORY/cart.php?target=page_not_found

2/
RewriteBase /MYSUBDIRECTORY

Hope that helps?

Kind regards

ITVV

Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad I did not upgrade this yet. I've been trying to get a development copy going, almost there but still can't get it to work right.

I've learned the hard way myself about backing up with this cart -you absolutely must back this thing up because the chances of it not upgrading correctly are probably over 50%.

Yeah, I noticed that like, 30 mods upgraded. I"m probably not going to be able to do this myself, which kind of defeats the purpose of this cart.

My copy doesn't have "ErrorDocument 404 /MYSUBDIRECTORY/cart.php?target=page_not_found"

I tried RewriteBase /dev where I have this thing located, that didn't work. Hmmm..

please advise...

Please could you contact our support staff by submitting a ticket at https://secure.x-cart.com/ and naming it something like "For X-Cart 5 dev team as requested in the forums"? Also, please provide the engineers with an access to your server so that they could debug the problem there and find the cause.

Also, what is your MySQL version? Is it MySQL v5.1.13 or higher?

Please send me a PM with a link to download the backup file. I can check it locally and tell you what you are to do to deploy the dev copy from this file.

I was finally able to get the development copy working.

I did advanced upgrade and first did the core only - no problems.

Webmaster kit - I had that one disabled by default because I had read it slows down the cart quite a bit, when I went to upgrade it asked me to either turn it on or uninstall it- I uninstalled it.

I then upgraded the rest of the mods 3 at a time - no problems, including Simple CMS. This upgrade went pretty smooth on my development copy.
