Default Thumbnails, Categories, Subcategories, and multi-col Tables

Hi All

We'd like to change the default display of categories and subcategories. Right now, they are displayed without any image, and they are in simple single column format.

What we'd like to do is the following:

1. Display 2, 3, or 4 columns, unlimited rows. This would apply to both the home page (for the top categories) and any subcats that are listed down the line. The home page would have 4 cols, the subsequent pages perhaps 2 or 3.

2. Display a thumbnail with each cat and subcat. In other words, we would designate a particular thumbnail as the thumb image of a category or subcategory. Probably, I could add a /img/cat directory that could hold my selections for the subcats

Does anyone know how to do this?

Many thanks

Hi,

Check this link, it's in this topic section about 10 down from your post, BOOMER has listed the code for multiple thumbnail listings.

Hi Syddos

So, this would apply to top cats displayed on the home page, too?

I thought that that code only referred to displaying products, not categories or subcats.

Thanks.

Is this the right one?

Thanks, again.

Hi,

I believe this is the code to produce the category listings with icons/thumbnails.

Note BOOMERS statement about possible variable changes in the latest xcart version.

I have not used this code, you could try it, if it does not work, just restore the template.

May I suggest that if you intend to heavily modify xcart, and you have disk space on your server, install a second copy of xcart in a new directory. As you change and test your developments, keep detailed notes of location of files changed and what was changed. When each change tests ok, copy the mod file to what will become your live version of xcart.

I have 4 versions of xcart running on my server (3.1.3a, 3.2.0, and two 3.2.1), the two-v3.2.1 installations share the same database, one version is used for developing/testing, and the other will be my rollout site. The 3.1.3a and 3.2.0 are just used for reference.

Using the above method, if you crash your test/development install, you still have your notes, and a working installation.

Regards,

Thanks, Syddos

Yeah, I've got experimental stuff all over the place. I learned a long time ago to have working copies of things.

I'll start digging into the system soon to see what's what.

Many thanks.
