USPS having issues with their API

This is the back end error being sent to admin....

[10-Feb-2014 12:32:20] SHIPPING warning:
USPS module error: [80040320]
USPS_error_description:An unexpected system error has occurred. Please try again later or contact the System Administrator.

We're not seeing any USPS errors in our logs, but definitely experiencing the nasty delay. Everything we and our customers do is slower today. I've noticed that most USPS server alternations occur on Sundays, so it's another reason I hate Mondays.

Agreed, I am willing to trun off USPS returned API rates for the day and use some manually defined flat shipping rates (First Class, Priority, International) that are high enough to cover our costs.

But help me with this, how can I SIMPLY turn off the USPS RealTime rates for the day? I need to get rid of the delay problem so just adding the flat rates on top of the real time stuff won't help?

Ok, I figured out by removing the USPS Web Tools User ID (in XC back end), I could keep XC from trying to access the USPS API.

Enabled some manually defined flat rates for the basic services and hoping to save some orders. The delay was maddening! and then even when it returned rates, some of the time it was missing the USPS Priority rates. Aaargh.

I don't want to be the one to jinx it, but a few minutes ago the delay issue went away. Orders are coming in again too. Fingers are crossed this USPS problem is fixed.

We just setup the USPS realtime rates on our site are taking forever or we get this error.
