In light of how many in this thread feel, it would have been better if v5 was never mentioned. This is why some companies don't announce future versions of software and hardware. If a hardware maker announced a new laptop was coming out next year you may not buy the current one or you may not be happy with the one you just purchased.

I'd like to see leaner code and stuff like that too. Mod developers aside, I still feel that if there was a simpler way to upgrade, a new version would be welcomed, as it should, instead of bemoaned.

So bring on the new versions and features! Just make sure the very first new feature is a completely overhauled upgrade system.

A built in site map generator would be an excellent addition to the next version.

I understand v4.4 will offer all commercial QT modules built in. This is a good news for those who did not buy them.

I know free or not shopping carts with a lot of branches, and nobody is upset. I appreciate in the last year, QT involved more than usual in changing this software to our actual needs.

Use what branch you want and grow up your businesses.

Good idea, which branch is PCI/PA DSS compliant?

If the answer is none (which I already know it is) then none of them will allow you to "grow your business" beyond July 2010.

The real question here is why is QT spending time developing new branches that are not viable shopping carts after the 2010 deadline instead of concentrating all of their resources on being compliant with the rules that will be in place?

Sounds to me like 4.3 is not compliant, 4.4 will be compliant.

One page checkout is nice,

What I would like to know is, How hard is it going to be to go from 4.3 to 4.4, as I just moved my store to 4.3.

I must have missed that, can you show me where it says 4.4 will be PCI-DSS and PA-DSS compliant?

All new versions of x-cart (4.2.x, 4.3.x, 4.4.x, and v5.x.x) are supposed to be database upgrades only. The templates and php are different for each version so they can not be upgraded, meaning you will have to start with a fresh install of each version using your "upgraded" database.

4.4 isn't even supposed to be released as beta until March, which makes me concerned that v5 is not going to be stable by July.

JWait: QT could tell you if there is a team working for v5 and another one for v4. I am pretty sure they have two teams doing the job.

Again, my question is why? Does QT really think customers are going to spend time developing a version (4.4) when it will be obsolete within 6 months of its release? I know we are not. We plan to roll out our 4.2.3 version of our store after the new year, and then use it until our v5 is developed (hopefully before the 2010 Christmas season) when it is determined (by us) to be stable.
