Does anyone know how to change this greyed out standard text as shown in this image:

The text I need to change is the "Your state", "90001" and "+1213000000" etc

Have you searched for this in the language templates in the admin area?

Most likely you have to modify the actual templates that have these controls and change the "placeholder" attribute text. I doubt these are set as language variables.

The problem here is if you modify the templates directly next upgrade will wipe out your changes. So you need to do this with a custom module and replicate these templates with your own.

Hello!

John is right - you can change these placeholders in the back end.

Go to "Store setup" -> "Translations", search for the following labels and edit them:
- Your first name
- Your last name
- 1000 Example street
- Example city
- Your state
- 90001
- +12130000000
- email@example.com

If for some reasons the back end says there is no label, add it manually with the desired "translation".

That's got it! When I searched here yesterday "Your state" wasn't showing in the translations so I assumed they weren't edited there. I just had to make a new label for this specific one. All the others were there already.
