Default X-Cart 5.3.6.3 release in Merchant wave

Hi,

5.3.6.3 was released in Merchant wave.
The previous plan was to release it in September but we decided to revamp the Roadmap and plans, to provide a more stable version that is required for the future upgrade from 5.3.6.x to 5.4.0.x
Here is the changelog: https://devs.x-cart.com/changelog/5.3.6.3_-_25_Jul_2019.html

Upgrade from 5.3.6.x to 5.4.0.x will be available no early than the second part of September.

Thanks!

I just came across this issue. Most likely it exists in the new 5.4.x as well. Please fix

Thank you for pointing this out, I replied to the ticket:

We created a “taxable” field for gift certificates, especially.
For all products, it’s “true” by default.
For all gift certificates, it’s “false” by default.

You have several options on how to reach what you want:
- Create a new Tax Class, let’s say No-tax, define a zero tax rate for this class, and assign it to the particular products.
- To simplify this process, we have a paid addon for that case: https://market.x-cart.com/addons/tax-exemption.html
Thanks!

The product option is there. It is in the products table already. It is taking space, resources, it is being used in the code. Why not use it? It is not a big deal to add it to the product modify page. It took me about 20 min to get this added and tested.

Using Tax Class implies the Tax module is installed. What if the Tax module is not installed and instead TaxJar or Avalara is used? Does the Tax Class option still applies? Can it be used? Will the tax service honor it? Or is it expected the tax service non-taxable code to be used?

The Tax Exemption module maybe a good idea if one wants to exempt customers but to install yet another module just to exempt products when the functionality is already in the cart seems a bit too much.

Tax Clases are working out the box (https://kb.x-cart.com/taxes/setting_up_tax_classes.html) but to configure rates you need "Sales tax / VAT/GST / Canadian taxes" addons.
So there are several how-to reach required functionality.

Thank you for the feedback!
