Default allowing orders of out of stock items?

Has anybody tried to make it so a person can back order items? Bascially make it so if something has zero available they can still order it. My company has like 32000 skus but we don't have nearly that many in stock and some things we don't order unless someone places an order with us.

thanks
Ryan

Edit skin1.conf and you should find a variable UnlimitedProducts ="N" Set it to "Y" and customers should be able to place orders even if the avail returns zero.

hth.

This doesn't do what I'm looking for it to do. It doesn't show the amount of items online, but if you try to add a item with 0 available it won't. I have been told by the xcart people that this would require some customization.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. You could try some things on skin1\customer\main\product.tpl at about line 79 is where the if statements start for the quanitities. This could also involve editing alot of the php as there is no telling what may happen if JUST the templates are edited.

anyhow, hth.

Default back orders

What, no back order capability? That is a need, not a want.

I hear ya Danny. 11 hours of their programming time is what it's going to take to customize it for me.

You could always add an extra field to the products that says if its a stocked item or not and explain that non stocked items would take longer to be delivered.

Not perfect but would allow the customer to order and know that it may take longer,

Except you can't add an item to the cart that you don't have stock of, unless you just make all the quatities a large number or something.

yeh thats the idea,

you could always set the not stocked items to have a qty of 999999 then set the actual level of stocked items if you want to track them.

Sorry to dig this up from a year ago but I can't find a solution to being able to allow customer order out-of-stock items in 3.4.4

It's probably a setting I am missing either in the admin area or in a file somewhere but I can't find it anywhere.

I would like to keep the inventory tracking in place as it is very helpful but don't want to miss a sale if we have something that is out of stock.

Maybe there is a creative solution that I haven't found or thought of or if it is on the board I apoligize fr not finding it.

can anyone point me in the right direction?
