Download to do a fresh install
I am going to be switching web hosts in the next few months. I was thinking of just doing a fresh install, but where do I download XCart 5? I went to the HelpDesk and then the File Area. I click the X-Cart 5, then Link to download the latest version.txt. This gives a link to https://www.x-cart.com/download.html but that page doesn't appear to exist anymore.
At further review, it looks like X-Cart is no longer selling a "X-Cart 5 Business" license and only has enterprise. Didn't they even offer a free version before? Any ideas? Thanks. |

Re: Download to do a fresh install
The version 5 licences and software are a complete mystery (mess) these days.
It changes all the time - by the time you come to do your move, there will a new policy and pricing system in place. Yes, there was a free version, but not any more - making it more difficult for customers to get on board with X-Cart. You could try asking in your helpdesk for a downloadable version. HOWEVER, when moving hosts, most hosts will transfer the site for you - anyone who deserves your business will do this for you free of charge. Also, you might be able to do it yourself, quite easily, via cpanel - if both hosts have it.

Re: Download to do a fresh install
SL has moved XC to subscription cloud version only. You have to ask them for downloadable copy.
Alternatively you can create a copy of your current store, remove all modules and data and pack it yourself as a copy of XC5.

Re: Download to do a fresh install
Thanks for the info guys! I had no idea... I guess it's been a while since I have been at XCart's website. I don't understand why they are making their software so expensive. The reason I like XCart is because I can pay a one-time fee and own the software. Too bad.
I do have CPanel so maybe it would be better to just transfer it. I am using A2Hosting.. it's been the fastest host I've found for XCart with reasonable pricing so far. Any other suggestions for hosts that are fast enough for XCart? -Greg |

Re: Download to do a fresh install
If "it's been the fastest host I've found for XCart with reasonable pricing" is the case - why move???
I really struggle to recommend decent X-Cart hosting anymore - it's not like before when there were loads of boutique, X-Cart approved hosts to choose from. You would have got loads of recommendations - now they've all been gobbled up by the big boys.

Re: Download to do a fresh install
Just don't go with Performive, former Total Server Solutions.
One to consider is inMotion

Re: Download to do a fresh install
Agreed, Steve - what has happened to Performive? They've just gone downhill in the last few years. Impossible to recommend them anymore.

Re: Download to do a fresh install
I guess TSS had some issues and sold to an Indian company I think. Now their customer service is almost non-existent, tickets just sit for long time with no replies, etc.
2 clients waited for over a month for simple server software upgrade which never happened. Constant reminders for the server people to advance on the ticket with no replies. Now one of them is already moved to another host with the second one in progress. And I know of other clients who moved out as well on their own. Few months ago another client was screwed up so bad when the host deleted their actual live site they lost tenths of thousands of dollars in revenue being off line for 3 days, at the end I had to step in and interrupt the host as they had no idea what they were doing...
