How to apply Webmaster Mode to front-end only?
I use webmaster mode to help me design my site. What's the simplest method, if any, of turning off webmaster mode to the admin section? Having admin side in webmaster mode kind of gets annoying, specially since I have no intention of changing/modifying anything.
Thanks.

Re: How to apply Webmaster Mode to front-end only?
If you have no intention of modifying/changing anything why are you using webmaster mode to begin with? If you are changing the customer side, you enable webmaster mode, then "open customer area in a new window", make your changes and then close webmaster mode. There is no reason to navigate away from the "webmaster mode" page unless you are changing something in the admin section.

Re: How to apply Webmaster Mode to front-end only?
Best method of learning is going to the customer side, hovering over certain areas, finding out the files affiliated with it and jumping back to the admin side to add/delete/recode through edit templates/etc./etc..
But since both sides are in webmaster mode, the annoying part is that extra lines are inserted between the navigation categories, links pop up windows, it slows the system down, etc., etc. By having the ability to turn off the webmaster mode in the admin side, speeds up everything. Regardless, admin is required when working in webmaster mode, unless the site is up and running and only a minor change is required.

Instead of using the text editor in x-cart to modify templates, if you have a local copy of your web site on your computer (and you should!) you can use a better editor (I like PSPad) to edit the file locally and rename it (so you don't overwrite the file that is working) and then FTP it to see if the edits do what they are supposed to. If they do not, it is easy to replace the original file.

Re: How to apply Webmaster Mode to front-end only?
I currently use mix of BBedit, CSSedit, and Fugu my Mac. PSPad looks promising. I'll test it on my PC Laptop. Thanks for your input so far.

For mac users: One word: Coda http://www.panic.com/coda/ OR -- for a few dollars less, Transmit + Textwrangler http://www.panic.com/transmit/ http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/ But if you already own BBEdit, then TextWrangler is a step backward. Transmit is as good an FTP client as you're going to find for any OS. Add a kliller text editor such as BBEdit and you will NEVER, EVER think of using the xcart template editing tools (nor should you).

About the only fault I have found with PSPad is when you choose to view a html document as a html page it defaults to IE instead of your default browser, but since IE is the one full of hacks I do end up looking at it all the time anyway although I never use it otherwise.

I had tested Transmit couple of years ago but didn't like it. Kept messing things up. But I'm guessing it's much better now. Coda looks good. I like the built-in Terminal. Seems more user friendly than the standard Terminal in Mac. Acts like a real SSH terminal. JWait: Have you used PSPad to code PHP? Do you like its functionality.

Re: How to apply Webmaster Mode to front-end only?
Well, I don't really code php, but it does work well for modifying the code when implementing the mods from this forum. I haven't really found a weakness, other than that it wants to save .tpl files as plain text (but I can live with that).
