Default "AntiSpam" module for X-Cart 5

Tired of SPAM bots submitting forms on your website and creating fake customer accounts?

The new AntiSpam module will help you stop them!

The module implements the Honeypot field and checks the form submission time to detect bots without forcing legitime users to do any extra steps.

As the last line of defence the module integrates with the free reCAPTCHA service by Google.
It shows the CAPTCHA field if one of the aforementioned validations failed (so we have a reason to suspect that it's a bot, not a human being).

Please suggest improvements and report found issues to modsupport@x-cart.com. Or you can just post them in this forum thread.

Thanks!

The new 5.3.1 version tweaks styles a bit for a better compatibility with the Crisp White theme.

Recently Google announced that new reCAPTCHA keys will no longer be compatible with the old API version (v1.0) that Antispam module integrates with.

If you already have reCAPTCHA keys, these should continue to work on your site. However, if you are a new reCAPTCHA user, the keys will likely not work in Antispam module.

Therefore, in order to not confuse new X-Cart users and hide the module from them we decided to mark the module as "deprecated" and release new Google reCAPTCHA module as a replacement.

I use the anti spam module, I like it for the honey trap feature more than for recaptcha. I'm confused now as to what I am supposed to do regarding this.

You can continue to use Antispam module - the honeypot check doesn't require reCAPTCHA and it will work even if Google closes the reCAPTCHA API v1.0 at all.

The "deprecated" mark is there to prevent new X-Cart users from purchasing this module and asking for a refund later because of their reCAPTCHA keys not working with the old API version implemented in this module.

As far as I see most of XC5 user are looking for a simple reCAPTCHA integration, and this is where the new module will work for them better.

Although I doubt that the honeypot check will go into the new reCAPTCHA module, we are considering different options for making it available to XC5 users. One of the ideas is removing the outdated reCAPTCHA integration from Antispam and making it to be the Honeypot-only module.

Ever since I removed the Honeypot module, I've been receiving 1000's of fake registrations. Put it back.
