I know this has been done to death already, as there are several smarty plugins available if you know where to look. Unfortunately, the smarty plugin by the folks at http://smartydwt.klitsche.org/ does a little too much work translating the smarty syntax into its own translator tags and back and I just don't really like the underlying complexity it adds. It just increases the chances of munging your template tags. My first experience with the plugin broke the template I was working on when Dreamweaver crashed, so I'm not a fan. I just need something simple that will make smarty tags look like icons so they don't break Dreamweaver's design view. As for the other smarty extensions, you have to dig to find them in various locations on the smarty wiki, so I took the best features of the two I liked best and created a new MXP installer that installs them in a neater footprint instead of scattering files around your extension directory. It incorporates both the "Smarty Tags" and "Smarty toolbar" from two different extensions and doesn't mess with your template syntax at all, while still giving you a better template display in Dreamweaver's design view. I created a version for DreamweaverMX and lower which automatcially adds the Smarty doctype to Dreamweaver and one for Dreamweaver MX2004 and higher which does not add the doctype since it's already defined in newer versions of Dreamweaver.
