Default Free version options (recurring payments and EPDQ)

I would like to sell a product with a monthly recurring payment and use the Barclays EPDQ system for checkout.

I see x-cart provides both of these features. Do I need to purchase a license for this setup or can it done with the free version?

I believe you would need both X-Payments and X-Payments subscriptions. X-Payments is not free, it is usually purchased as a SAAS solution for around $50/mo.

Mike is absolutely right - all X-Cart packages are exactly the same in terms of payment and shipping options. The fact that the Free one is free does not mean that it is limited somehow - it just includes less modules and thus less features.

And, yes, if we are talking about selling subscriptional products you can definitely do that with any package including the Free one.

However, regardless of what package you have, you will also need either a hosted account or your own X-Payments installation in order to both perform those recurring charges and have the store know what is going on. (Some gateways offer internal options to setup those subscriptions, like this one but they usually have no way of letting the store know what is going on so you will need to manually monitor the whole thing)

Please, see this blog post for more details.

That said, the integration with ePDQ currently implemented in X-Payments does not support tokenization technology needed to perform those recurring charges. So I would recommend you to reach out to Barclays and see if they offer any other payment method that does. Then we can figure of if it can be integrated directly with X-Cart or X-Payments will still be required.
