It sucks that your host doesn't provide a better means of backing up. Normally a web host should provide some sort of daily backups if they are doing their job, I mean what if they have a critical failure that is their fault? They just say oops, well our TOS says it's your responsibility. Ouch that would hurt.

Also there are usually methods to download your own backup through the control panel depending on the CP you are using.

And last, once you finish your development work you need to make sure you know what you need backed up daily. For example, the actually X-Cart php files and template files probably rarely ever change unless you do additional development, but that database with products, orders, and customers is what changes daily. It's pretty easy to create an automatic database backup to email it off to a Gmail account or maybe another FTP server, or whatever depending on the security you want to maintain.

Default Restoration feature does not work for x-cart-5.3.1.2-en

Scenario

Installed XCart on a machine with WAMP :

Setting up Successful !!!
( Made changes to the sample Shopping Site )
Installed wamp on another machine :

Tried to restore the database (to import the data from the additions I did on the other machine)
Database import fails !!!

Split script with data and structure separately:
Structure is successful !
Errors are in the data, and these are with the sample data (not any data that I had added)

Errors that I identified were,

1. Error #1064 reported :
#1064 - check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'Cart TTL (days)', '' at line 53

Cause identified as "#" in line above

2. Replaced "#" with "No" and then error is reported :

Not sure why this is happening since these are errors in the sample database.

Can someone please provide me some solution on how i can get the sample database restored.

How did you create the dump? Did you use the built-in function (System settings -> Tools page)?

Default Re: How to create a backup of entire website ?

We did the following

FIRST APPROACH
1. Modified the existing sample xcart site by adding new products, and deleting and disabling some existing products
2. Used the internal "backup database" feature
3. Did some changes after the backup to the site
4. Restored the backup taken using the internal "restore database" feature

outcome

Restore though indicating success showed that contents of the database were NOT RESTORED. All the changes we did after the backup was taken were still existing indicating the backup did not work.

SECOND

Since the internal backup did not work we tried backuping up and restoring the database through PHPMyAdmin and HeidiSQL. Here again the backup worked. However in PHPMyAdmin restore complaints of SQL syntax errors (shown in the above post) for EXISTING content in the sample database. In the case of HeidiSQL the restore completes with warnings, but the data is not reflected.
