Default My Instructions for GnuPG w/ MS Outlook

Here is a short writeup for people trying to configure GnuPG with Microsoft Outlook. If you found this useful or have any suggestions/changes, please let me know.

Quote:
Step 1) Download the installer for GnuPG on the computer that is running MS Outlook, and that you want to receive encrypted e-mails on. Download link: http://space.gdata.de/dl_shop/gpg/GDATA_plugin_091-eng.exe
Step 2) Once this is installed, open MS Outlook. Click 'Tools' from the menu on the top. Select "GnuPG key management". You should receive a message that says you do not have a private key yet. Click 'Generate key now'.
Step 3) For the Your Name box, enter 'Your Name' (without the ' around the words). Click 'Next'.
Step 4) For the Your E-mail Address box, enter 'sales@your-domain.com' (without the ' around the words). Click 'Next'.
Step 5) For the Comment box, leave it blank and click 'Next'.
Step 6) For the Password box, enter a password that YOU WILL REMEMBER. If you forget it, you will have to start over from the beginning. Write this down in your wallet. My suggestion is nmvre87. Anyone who uses your computer will need this password to read the e-mail. Re-enter your password below and click 'Next'.
Step 7) You will be asked to generate a backup, click 'Do it later'. Despite the fact it looks like this has already been selected, YOU MUST CLICK ON IT. Once you are sure you clicked on 'Do it later', click 'Next'.
Step 8) The program will generate the key for you, and then you must click 'Close' when it is done.
Step 9) Grab a beer because you are more than halfway done.
Step 10) Now that your key has been created, you need to 'Export it'. Here's what you do. While you are still on the same screen, you should see something named Key ID, and User Name. Right below that area you will have a bunch of random characters, as well as 'Your Name <sales@your-domain.com>' to the right of that. Click on either the random characters, or the 'Your Name <sales@your-domain.com>' text, this should highlight it blue.
Step 11) Now that the key has been highlighted from step 10, you need to now export it. To do this, click 'Export'. For the 'Export to file:' box, enter the following: 'C:\key-file.txt' (without the ' around the words) and click 'Ok'.
Step 12) Now go to 'File' > 'Quit' to exit the program.
Step 13) Open the file located at 'C:\key-file.txt'. You can do this by going to 'Start' > 'My Computer' > 'C Drive' > then double click on 'key-file.txt'.
Step 14) You should see a file that looks something like this:
-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
Version: GnuPG v1.0.4e (MingW32)
Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org

mQGiBEP6vPURBADf/iOAf8P93KNzOUYy9ATiYdDm5n9+o
-----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
Step 15) Select ALL OF THE TEXT. Usually you can hit 'Ctrl+A' to highlight all, and then 'Ctrl+C' to copy whatever was highlighted.
Step 16) Now we need to update X-Cart to use your unique key file. Log into your X-Cart admin area (http://www.your-domain.com/admin).
Step 17) Click on the link named 'General Settings' if you can't find the link, hit 'Ctrl+F' to open the "Find text on page" dialog, then enter 'General Settings' (without the ' around the words), and select 'Find'.
Step 18) Next click on the link named 'Security options'. If you can't find that link, repeat the same idea in Step 17 with the Find. Once you are on the Security options page, you should see a drop down menu next to 'Order emails encryption method:'. In this drop down menu, select 'GnuPG'. Now click 'Save' towards the bottom of the page to save the changes you just made.
Step 19) Next click on the link named 'GnuPG options'. If you can't find that link, repeat the same idea in Step 17 with the Find. You should see a box next to 'GnuPG public key:'. Delete any current information inside of this box. Once this box is empty, right-click inside the box and select 'Paste', or hit 'Ctrl+V' to paste the key information you copied earlier. Click 'Save' to save the current changes you just made. Make sure that there are no additional lines below your key file- additional white space might result in failed keys. (If you put your mouse to the right of the last character, and hold down the delete key, it should remove all of the white space).
Step 20) Next click on the link named 'Click here to test data encryption by GnuPG/PGP'. If you can't find that link, repeat the same idea in Step 17 with the Find. Enter some random text in the box next to 'Text to encrypt:'. For the box next to 'Send encrypted data to email' enter your full e-mail address that was created in Step 10, in your case 'sales@your-domain.com' (without the ' around the words).
Step 21) Check the 'Show GnuPG/PGP errors and warnings' box by clicking on it once. Then click the 'Submit' button to submit the test e-mail.
Step 22) Microsoft Outlook should still be open from before (since I never said to close it, and said to follow each step exactly). Go back to the MS Outlook window, and click the Send/receive menu to receive any current messages.
Step 23) Once the new message comes in (the test message sent from Step 21), open the message by double-clicking on it.
Step 24) You should now see something like this:
-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux)

-----END PGP MESSAGE-----
Step 25) Select 'Tools' from the menu on the top, and then click on 'Decrypt and verify signature'. You will be asked to enter the password that you were supposed to remember from Step 6.
Step 26) The e-mail message should now be decrypted, and viewable. Once you close the e-mail message, you will need to do the same thing again to view it.
