Before I start delving into this deeply could anybody give me an idea of how difficult\easy me evil scheme is?

On my product detail page (eg - http://www.armyofnerds.com.au/product.php?productid=86&cat=249&page=1) I want to remove the product image and move the fulldescr field to be below the buy-it-now and item details. (My fulldescr field will contain html with several 550px wide images down the page, and will need to take up the entire width of the main box thingy.)

I only have a basic understanding of css from reading a book, essentially I am starting from scratch...

Would be a simple enough job to pay somebody a small some to do it for me, or is it a can of worms?

Simple!
It's more of an html job than a css one - if you are familiar with <div> layers, it's just a case of moving things round a bit.
Have a look at skin1/customer/main/product.tpl - back it up first and see if you fancy trying it yourself.

For the description, find this - {$product.fulldescr|default:$product.descr} and move the whole line outside <form></form> below the closing div's and if's where the form is. To remove th eimage - the code is close to the top of the file - detailed images, image-box... you will see it. comment out all of it in div class details-left
