Default .PHP file opens with NotePad not Installation Wizard...

Hello all...

I've used X-Cart in the past and loved it. I'am trying to launch a new site not and registered it with BigDaddy and have it hosted with Network Solutions...the site is live with a 'Under Construction' banner...

I DL'ed the trial version of x-cart...extracted to my PC...uploaded to my site's FTP server...entered this into the web browser....http://www.mysitename.com/xcart/install.php.....at this point I should have an Installation Wizard pop-up if I'm correct. Instead Notepad open with what seems to be the Install.PHP file. Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?. Do I have to install anything else such as a .PHP reader such as these:

http://www.simongibson.com/intranet/php2003/installer.asp

or

http://www.simongibson.com/intranet/php2003/default.asp

Thanking in advance!

Well first, Network Solutions is not a good choice for an X-Cart site. I'd suggest one of the X-cart recommended hosts, these in particular:

www.ewdhosting.com
www.handsonwebhosting.com

You need a host who understands PCI Compliance and X-Cart itself - if you ever run into a problem, Network Solutions will NEVER be able to help. Not being able to run a simple php file is a bad sign right off the bat!

Vstern,

Does your hosting company have MySQL and support the version of PHP necessary to use x-cart?

Usually such issue means there is no PHP or it is not enabled for your hosting account. Solution: find a hosting provider that meets X-Cart server requirments or ask your existing provider make your hosting account compatible with X-Cart (see the link I aforementioned).

Good hosting companies for X-Cart can be found at
