Default disable customer authentication

Does anyone know where is the switch to disable customers need to log-in?

In your admin general settings switch "allow anonymous checkout" to on.

what happens when anonymous checkout is enabled, does the user have to type in all their details every time they visit?

Yup, that's why it's called anonymous because you don't store their details in an account as such.

thanks for that, i wondered if the cookie held the info and therefore recognised the user/details on return, clearly not !
