![]() Just to be clear, it does appear to be valid... <b> tags are okay for formatting and presentation, it's the context and the manner in which it is used that should be questioned. If <b> tags can be used in this way, then why have div or span styling tags?
I think this is more of a html vs xhtml thing. Going to check up a little more into it.

No doubt there will come a time when the <b> tag will be depreciated in favour of style sheets but until that time it is a vaild tag. Like a lot of things it comes down to user preference and until we are forced to take these tags out of web pages there will always be users using a variety of tags.

![]() Thanks Penghead. Annoyed and I were talking about it earlier.
I couldn't find much regarding using the <b> tag in this way or find an example where nesting them would be an advantage. <b><b></b><b></b></b> with no content and using it for layout just seems to me to be out of context and misused. Why not choose b tags for tableless designs? It would save a terrific amount of bandwidth and present a leaner carbon footprint. Talking of carbon footprints... I'll shut up now ;D
