Re: Designers? What Res do you design for?
Screen resolution does not equal available pixels for the browser. There are lots of people who don't maximize thier browser to full screen - especially as you get into the larger/wide screens. Some people leave various sidebars and toolbars displayed. Here's a good article on the issue.
http://www.baekdal.com/reports/actual-browser-sizes/ The bottom line is design for 776 usable pixels wide if you want to cover 95% of your visitors. Of course that's based on the data in the article from October of last year from the sites surveyed. It would be really nice to see a current survey of browser viewport resolution for a wider audience. Even better, I'd like to see it tracked in X-Cart instead of screen resolution.

Re: Designers? What Res do you design for?
Every time I think it's safe to move up from 800, I see a client who is struggling with sides cut off on websites. Florida's a little backwards, but... I still design for 800. Of course, I do get some clients asking why the website is so narrow.
Even for my own browsing I often prefer 800 px wide. My display is 1920 x 1200, but I usually have several windows open at the same time.

Re: Designers? What Res do you design for?
I'm still designing on the 1024x768 however if it's a site aimed at tech people and programmers rather than the general public, then I design in larger resolutions.
