Free Shipping if over $X, not with a coupon
I would like to offer my customers free shipping if their purchase exceeds some specified amount. I don't want them to have to use the very cumbersome method of supplying a coupon code.
This functionality should be integrated into the Discounts section. This is pretty much a standard offer used by many of the big online stores. If you would like this option too, please show your support by replying... |

This is already possible.
All you would do is set a shipping charge where the order total is the amount they must buy before getting free shipping and set the amount as FLAT and 0 You can then set up shipping charges below that that reflect the charges that you want customers to pay. Saying that though, this will only work if you set your own shipping charges and not use realtime shipping

Shan, thanks. I do use my own shipping formulas, so I tried this, but was only able to get the exact opposite of what I wanted. Setting the Order Total to 150, and Flat to 0 made all orders under 150 free shipping, but orders over 150 the shipping kicked back in. That's no good. I'm not sure how I would go about reversing that to get what I want. (My shipping formulas are done by weight, naturally.) Any ideas?
Also if this feature is ever implemented under Discounts, it is important that it be tied to a particular shipping type. |

Ok yeh, I kinda got that the wrong way round when I explained it.
Set order total to 150 and add price of shipping for anything up to that amount. Then set another total of 999999 etc and set that shipping cost to zero that should do it

Thanks for the clarification. If I understand you correctly, it sounds like this will require converting all of my Shipping price formulas from a Weight based calculation to an Order Price based calculation?

shan, it is just an ascending price based on weight.
It would be so nice if this were easy to do thru the discounts section, although I may wind up just changing the code, if I can find the right place to do it. |

By the way, has anyone ever implemented 'Free Shipping if over a certain total' thru the code? I did see a thread here where someone was able to use shan's method to get this thru the admin panel, but they had a flat shipping rate otherwise, and I don't think that is too common.
