Remove some of the required fields on the Contact Us page

I'm trying to remove some of the required fields in the Contact Us page. When I comment them out it doesn't work, when I remove them it doesn't work. Just doesn't process. Had no problem removing the non-required fields. Thanks!

try setting them to hidden fields and give it a value.

To remove fields from the Contact Us form edit the contactus.tpl file which is located in the /skin1/help directory.

If the removed fields were required or to make an existing field non-required edit the help.php file in the /include directory. For example to make the Last Name field non-required you need to remove:

|| empty($contact["lastname"])

from the $fillerror = statement

Thanks for the "Welcome". I've never posted a question because I've always managed to find the answers via the dreaded search function.

I was trying to set a few fields as non-required just like the original poster above. Shan's reply pointed me in the right direction but was not clear as to which of the many help.php files needed to be edited.

So as this forum has helped me on numerous occasions I was glad to finally offer some assistance.

Isn't it easier to go to > General settings> Contact us form options>
And unchecking fields you dont require?

For instance my contact us for just has Name/E-mail Message Just basics!
Department you can edit through > Lanquages just search label > Department, then edit that if you want to change name.

Then to edit which department do a search text label or text> for each predone department, then edit to your choosen department
