Thanks to everyone! I'm very impressed by such massive feedback. Our architects are now studying it and considering particular features for implementation. This is very helpful. Please keep on going I think that with coordinated efforts we can make another step towards the perfection

Perhaps the of the features below could be implemented:
1.) Further support for exporting orders into various accounting package formats. - MYOB (US/Canada etc.) - Peachtree (US/Canada etc.) - Sage Line 50 (UK) 2.) The implementation of real time shipping calculations within the UK - Citylink - RoyalMail - Business Post and other popular couriers. Presuming all will have APIs for integration. 3.) Inventory tracking with a back order facility, where products that are out of stock can be ordered for the customer when back in stock. 4.) Import facility for wholesale / bulk prices 5.) PDF format for invoice creation. I believe this can be implemented without installing components on a web server. This would be useful for multipart invoices and the customisation of an invoice. 6.) Auto-resize thumbnail images. Rather than just 'reducing the appearance of thumbnails in x-cart, whilst retaining the file size of a more larger image file, perhaps actual thumbnail files could be dynamically created through x-cart. With smaller image file sizes and consistent sizes, image quality and page loading time will be reduced. 7.) Perhaps a routine to sync Accounting data e.g. Quickbooks local data with X-cart data? 8.) Couple of UK Payment gateways: - Natwest fastpay - HSBC 9.) Option to greet customer formally or informally according to their choice. e.g. by title and surname or forename. 10.) The ability to add user defined custom fields to registration forms. For example adding a 'where did you hear about us list menu', further text fields etc. without having to 'hack the source code. Possibly functioning in a similar way to 'the extra fields for the products table. These are mainly new mods, but would be good features of the new x-cart branch.

I very much like these ideas. The Image resizing has been mentioned a few times in the forum and is one of the things that non computer savy people have a lot of problems with. This could work as an option and check to see if the graphics library is installed on the server. At the same time it could spit out a detailed image too if the original is big enough.

This is a good idea but very hard to implement well. I've done some research into this and it seems that netpbm is the way to go for resizing images (as opposed to using the gd library). I've hacked up an older (3.3.5) version of the cart to use netpbm to automatically resize thumbnails but we noticed that still produced blurry and unclear images especially when compared to thumbnails created manually in photoshop. However, I did add a separate "upload thumbnail" part to the cart so you could upload a full size image and a resized thumbnail and it works pretty well. Photoshop has produces high quality thumbnails especially compared to the crummy IE resizing and the pages load much quicker because the images are smaller. Perhaps this should be a feature request? Allow 2 images per product -- the main image and the thumbnail?

When the Mr,Mrs option is deselected in Profile Options it is removed from the top section of the registration page but remains on the billing and shipping areas of the registration page which seems incorrect. If we want it gone shouldn't it be gone everywhere?
On install I selected all countries for states (US, Canada, UK, Spain, Australia). during registration if I select another country than the default (US) the states dropdown disappears even when a country where states should be available such as UK or Canada. Where is my Modify Product button? Clicking the search products button instead is going to take some getting used to. Old habits die hard |

I wish you could add payment gateway www.ccavenue.com in your list.
They are using variable based method so it's very easy to implement with x-cart. Please .... [-o<

Smarty 2.6.2 compliance is a must. The speed benefits are tremendous and carrying on with a new major release based on 2.5.0 would be a poor decision. We would be stuck with an outdated method of templating for at least another 2 years. By upgrading to 2.6.2 you will allow users the option to take advantage of future refinements to the Smarty templating engine. Locking us into 2.5.0 is limiting our abilities and options. Please X-Cart. The design mods and minor features are nice, but compliance at tthe code level is an absolute must. We can always mod our own little features as needed. It's the actual store architecture that you guys should be focusing on IMHO. That is where you can make the biggest impact with this product. Code and documentation. |
