with my customised layout in some instances the link on the header image seems to cover other links at the top of the page

eg once a customer is logged in on the "check cart" page the link to cart homepage which is attached to the header seems to be overriding the " Continue Shopping" and "Checkout" links

I have speed bar links to the websites (non cart) home page and also to the cart home so there is no real need to have the link on the header as well

how can I remove this?

Sounds like you need to clean up your code and CSS. Too much stuff close together. If you want to remove the link totally then you need to edit head.tpl I think.

It is a universal "expected behavior" that if you click on a header, you go home.
Every site. Everywhere.

Personally, I wouldn't remove the link...

BUT -- many stores have a DIFFERENT header or no header during cart or checkout.

I'm still using flash banners in my header from time to time and when I do, the browser incorrectly reports that my site is not secure even though I have an EV certificate properly installed. What I would like to do is create a different header that excludes my banner. Can someone write a description of how I can accomplish this. To summarize I need to know the code that will allow a different header when the site is https:// I'm hoping this will be a simple if/then statement but have no idea how to do this and where to insert the code. I can make my own modified head.tpl
