But if you are in 4.4.x pro and you want to go to 4.5.x goldplus, it's a job.
You CAN preserve your database, but it's not a quick one afternoon project. It requires multiple steps, backing up and restoring as you go.

I would ONLY do this in a dev partition.

If you don't have command line skills, don't even bother trying. Unless you are prepared to learn command line skills.

For the recod (I documented this elsewhere in the forum, I downgraded my 4.4.4pro to 4.4.4 gold. I also upgraded my 4.1.9 gold store to 4.5.3 gold plus. It can be done.

Thank you for the info, I did not know that the same version could be pointed to the same database.

No.

This is NOT the way to do it. DO NOT do this on a live database. I hate to say this, but if you are willing to attempt this on a live database, you lack the skills and/or experience to do this. You have been advised to only work on backups and dev partitions.

With that said, your steps will be

1. downgrade from 4.5.1 pro to 4.5.1 gold
2. upgrade from 4.5.1 gold to 4.5.3 gold
3. upgrade from 4.5.3 gold to 4.5.3 gold plus

Each step is worthy of its own thread here. I documented my downgrade from pro to gold in another thread.

This is NOT going to be easy. It will require manual editing of many templates and re-installing mods. It will require compare tools and command line skills. But it's really more busywork than creative. It's about a half day of work or so.

I am lacking tec skill to follow the above 3 steps, and it looks complicated to me. anyway my database is small so I choose the dummy way to create brand new store.

I created a subdomain and uploaded the gold+ files, installed and test run on it. My live store and database still there withou any changes, just having problems with the gold+ testing at the subdomain

Most likely permissions issue or .htaccess file.

1. check whether folders have 755 and files 644 permissions

2. try to rename .htaccess file in X-Cart home directory for the time being.

We're running a commercial site with a heavy customized template. My experience generally with new features is, sadly, the lack of documentation on how to use these new features in other templates other than the default ones. Is this different in Gold+?

New XC site - almost all of the buttons on the XC new site have light gray background and white text in IE - almost impossible to read.

Can you please provide us with an example, Steve? Which page is it?

I've just checked it in IE and all grey buttons have black text
