Default Invoking colorbox on category pages

Can anyone offer advice on how to invoke the jQuery colorbox on thumbnails showing on category pages?

I'm working on this today as well. Did you make any progress?

It looks like the detailed images are not included in the products array on category pages. That is the main obstacle, adjusting the search to pull in those extra images as well.

After considering this, I realize that if you have a lot of products in a category, this is going to slow things down considerably fetching all those images. Might be a bad idea for a high traffic site.

Putting detailed images in products array will not slow down the site. Showing all of them on the page may slow down a bit. There could be just a link that says - clickj for more images - and that link shows thumbs only for one product in a popup... just a suggestion

Unfortunately I'm just having trouble getting the colorbox call to work in the first place. My needs have kind of evolved into wanting to display a static page instead of a detailed image, but I'm still not sure how to call on the script. Because this is included in X-Cart there must be a standard way, no?

MSfan, the client decided to go with a plugin, which so far seems to be working very well. http://www.magictoolbox.com/magiczoomplus/modules/xcart/

The low price of this module made it a no-brainer compared to the cost of custom code.

Thanks, Mike. I just took a look at it and I do like the way it looks. I downloaded the "Magic Zoom" (not 'plus') demo, and I inadvertently broke my product page I made the mistake of opening "installation.html" (which overwrote some files automatically) and I can't seem to back out of the changes so I'm seeing if I can have my host restore my entire 'store' folder to something before today. At least I'm not live yet

It seems as though this only goes for product pages (and not category) - do you know if it works for category?

In my tests it works for category, featured products, recently viewed and product pages, plus you can enable/disable each of those at will. Really easy installation, and unencrypted source code make this mod a winner in my book.
