Help with image DB and image.php file
I have read in these boards that the use of the DB and the image.php file to render images severely slows down the x-cart system.
I successfully dumped the images of the 50 or so products that I have in my cart to the file system via the images location page in the admin section. I received no errors and I can browse them in the img folder. It seems however that the system is still using the db. If I delete an image in the file system it still shows up when I browse through the site. Also if I view source on the page it seems to be using the image.php file to render out the images which I have read in other places make the site very slow. If anyone could let me know how to completely circumvent the images DB and the image.php file I would really appreciate it. My site is EXTREMELY slow. Thanks, Mike Swimm x-cart 4.8 php 4.3.3 |

Probably you didnt choose the location. In your administration area, under Image Location you pick out Database or File system for this.
Take a look.

Thanks Leon,
Sure enough I missed the checkbox. Now my change-the-name-of-the-file test works. But when I view the code I still see that the images are being read by the image.php file. i.e. <img src="../image.php?productid=16142"Б─╕.. According to what IБ─≥ve read that file really slows the whole site down. Is that true? Is there a way to bypass it? What exactly does it do? I feel like my site is crawling. I really appreciate the help. Mike Swimm x-cart 3.8 php 4.3.3 |

Hmmmmm, seams to me you have a whole lot of images on your sites interface, that has happened to me on other systems not related to Xcart that is.
What is your URL, maybe it is easier to see it in action. Also, you cold consider if you are on a heavily maintained server with a lot of others (virtual hosting), or it could be you.. your ISP, OS, Navigator... Also, try converting your pages to HTML with that module, makes things much, much faster, since they dont have to be parsed all the time.
