Default No Email Formatting in Order Confirmation, Notification etc

Hey
Current problem is that all of these emails (and the others I would suspect as well) are appearing in Outlook Express as 1 long string (no linebreaks).
I have html mail/use internal php mailer set as recommened. I know that these tpl's are in skin1/mail, but don't relish changing every one to include the {literal}
{/literal} all over the shop to fix the formatting.
I saw a post somewhere in the forums regarding this and a W2K m/c, but this is a Unix box (Cobalt Raq)
Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.11 OpenSSL/0.9.6e
GATEWAY_INTERFACE CGI/1.1

Can anyone suggest anything likely to fix this ...and save me consuming several gallons of coffee and burning the 3:30am Oil???

Cheers & TIA

Leed

If you want to use html formatting in the emails then you need to add html formatting to the templates im afraid.

On the next cart i do I think ill go in and tidy them up too.

Default email formatting

Hi,

I have been struggling with email formatting as well. What do I add to get the formatting straightened out.

I spent hours yesterday inserting {literal}
{/literal} where I wanted line breaks.

NO LUCK.

I still have run together text and now on some emails I have instances of
in the text.

Help!

I am having no luck in doing this either. Seems strange that this wouldn't be a built in thing. Why would one want to send ugly emails to people?

Sky, the {literal}
{/literal} puts HTML line breaks into the mail, so you need HTML mail enabled. Leaving it unset (sends text mail), will leave the
codes visible in text as

If you have HTML mail enabled, you'll get clean line breaks. It's a pain I know, as there are one hell of a lot of forms to format...who knows ...

Ok I just inserted {literal}
{/literal} in a few files and it works now. I changed:
order_notification_admin.tpl
order_notification.tpl
order_invoice.tpl
order_data.tpl

In general settings there is an option "HTML Email", do you have that checked? If you don't maybe that is the problem.

Default Email Format

Changed my email setting to HTML and it's okay now. This will have to do I guess.

The thing I don't like about HTML mail is that I sell egoods and the download links cannot be "Clicked" on to take customers to the file. They have to cut and paste. What a pain.

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm. I don't understand why your links aren't working. I generate emails from X-Cart that provides customers with links for a pseudo Gift Registry that provides links in the message to take the recipient of the registry list directly to the product. I just embedded the traditional <a href=....>Product Description</a>

Is this what you are trying to do? I could send you and example of the template, etc that I have used if that would help.
