Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
I was able to report, but first had to logout of the bugtracker and then went back in to the bugtracker.

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
Vyacheslav do you want usability comments about 4.2 posted here or submitted as a ticket?
My comment is not about something that is broken or a bug but something that could help the admin area be easier to use. |

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
Just downloaded and did a first glance over the skin separation for admin & customer and its a mess. A short and very incomplete look at it finds modules/Detailed_Product_Images/popup_image.tpl used in both admin and customer sections. Also check_email_script.tpl, check_zipcode_js.tpl, check_password_script.tpl, check_required_fields_js.tpl. And probably more. The mix of customer and admin stuff in the root of the skin directory is just plain confusing. How is anyone (including Qualiteam staff) supposed to know which are customer files and which are admin?
I strongly recommend you make a clear separation of the files by taking everything backend and putting them in a skin1/backend folder and everything customer and putting it the skin1/customer folder. Don't leave any files in the skin root folder. Then in init.php you can set the template directory to one of those two folders instead of leaving it at skin1. Then get rid of all those changes in the customer tpl's to include "customer/..." - it will be automatic and the ones that you missed you won't need to worry about anymore. That way nothing can be inadvertently shared and its crystal clear to everyone which area of the site is being edited. Plus you'll find any mistakes quickly because things will just break because they are missing. If you really feel its necessary to maintain some shared pieces like some of the js just create a third folder skin1/shared. Then if tpl's need to used shared stuff they just include from ../shared/whatever.tpl. Do it right instead of making a bigger mess of the existing mess!

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
Agreed, it is time to get rid of the customer, customer/main and root skin1 stuff. All the admin stuff goes in admin/ all the customer stuff goes in customer/. Why does it have to be so complicated?

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
How about a fulfillment center mod? I asked for this about 3 years ago when we first bought our cart. It should (1) let us create one export orders account for every fulfillment center in use. (2) Allow admin to add or remove xml or csv form fields as needed to interface with each fulfillment center (3) have a configurable export orders feature so that we can export only the fields in the order that we want, not the entire order. And, (4) it should interface with cronjob on the server so that admin can set it to run automatically every day.
Thanks!

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
Ok looks like comments go here!
Please organize the admin side menus. Create a shipping side menu and put all shipping related links in it. The Management, Administration and Inventory menus are a mess and their titles do not pertain to what is in them. Anything that is a setting should be in one menu. Anything that is a task should be in another menu. Put the most commonly accessed links at the top of the menus!!!! Maybe something more like this: ADMINISTRATION Users Orders ------------------------ General settings Categories Wish lists Membership levels Titles Payment methods Credit card types Tax system Countries States Speed bar Static pages Modules Languages Discounts Coupons MANAGEMENT Statistics Summary Stop list Edit ratings DB backup/restore Import/Export Edit templates Files Images location Webmaster mode Patch/Upgrade HTML catalog PRODUCTS Search for products Add new product Modify product Delete product Update inventory Extra fields SHIPPING Shipping methods Shipping charges Shipping markups Destination zones UPS |

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
To continue with the files organization.... you call it "404/ - 'Error 404 - Page not found' templates". What about the other server errors? Why not call it "Server Errors" or similar and have templates for the different errors - 401, 403, 404,....
Also why not have a "css" folder and put all the style sheet files in there? Right now they just floating in the root folder. Same applies for the js files. I don't know how the error messages will show in the new version but "Error ID: some number" says nothing. Is it too hard to have a table with error codes and their meaning so when an error occurs the admin/customer see some text that actually makes sense? I use Quantum Gateway. The setup in the new 4.2 version is old and incorrect. The one from 4.1.10 is the correct one. Change it. We went over this when you released 4.1.10 with the incorrect code. It should be like this Quantum Gateway Login: Order prefix: CVV Type: 1 - CVV2 is passed; 2 - Card's CVV2 is unreadable; 9 - Card does not have CVV2 imprint Use Restrict Key: No Yes Restrict Key: https://www.quantumgateway.com/view_developer.php?Cat1=3

Re: X-Cart 4.2 beta testing
Please use the system at http://bugtracker.qualiteam.biz and don't post bug reports into this thread. This thread is not monitored by our developers and the only guaranteed way to get bugs resolved is posting them into the bug-tracking system. Thank you!
As for other suggestions in this thread - I will surely review them; and, if possible, minor tweaks will be added to 4.2. |
