Default Opening config.php

Hi - I swear I'm not an idiot and I have browsed through the forums but I can't seem to find this answer - how do I open up config.php to edit it?

I have GoLive and basically when I click on any of the .php files, it gives me some message about encoding and then opens up a blank page. And the Admin/Edit Templates section seem to only contain .tpl files.

Thank you!

Open up FTP...download it to your computer. Open it up in a text editor like Wordpad or Notepad.

As an ex-GoLive user, let me clarify something for you...

DON'T USE GOLIVE...

98% of what you need to edit x-cart is a text editor. Some would argue 100%. But the 2 in a hundred times that a graphic interface is desired, you can use golive, but you need to be very careful.

DO NOT open anything into golive. If you are going to use it, ONLY copy code from a text editor, then paste into source in golive, then copy the edited lines, then paste back into your text editor.

YOU WANT/NEED a FTP client that has an integrated (or linked) text editor. A text editor that is html/php/code friendly is even better...

For the mac, I use Transmit with TextWrangler. I would asusme there is a comparable high-end ftp client and text editor pairing that is good with code for windows, and has advanced find/replace features.

While you're at it, read this thread... it may help. But just give it up... golive is not a good space to be working in for most of what you need to do with xcart. You will learn to look at code and you will visulaize what the code looks like. Yes, you will!

As an ex-golive guy, I say just move on... focus on FTP/text and your x-cart experience will be better for it.

Good luck.

Jeremy

Thanks to both for the speedy response!

I did manage to open up the config.php file in TextEdit (I work on Mac) and it worked perfectly.

I use GoLive mainly for FTP. I have some HTML knowledge so have been successful editing that way so far - with the addition of Forum and X-Cart support. But I will definitely look into the apps you suggested as they sound like they will be very helpful as I get deeper into this...!
