I think that I would need to do a whole new mod. This is just made to select products at random and intended to replace the Featured Products.

I may write a true Random Products mod that is category specific and still follows all the normal membership rules, but would be able to be displayed anywhere on the site.

I've installed it on a clients site a while ago, seems to works pretty well.

Sorry I was not able to get back here to respond. We are in the middle of a busy season at the stores.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have made a FREE mod to do this. It is available on our website.

Hopefully since you have already done this, you will keep it free until such time as you write your own mod. Just because someone does something and has other more pressing things to do than respond to something they wrote & posted for FREE use of others, does not give you any right to take their work.

It was not my intention to take anyones work or try to pass something else off as my own. If you read the bottom of the post you will see that it is free because it is using X-Cart's code for random products. I have no intention of ever charging for this.

I did not intend to offend you - I just wanted to give this to someone in a complete package that they could turn on or turn off.

Since you did download it, you will see that I took the search function that was being used and moved it to it's own new function since there were a few fields added. This keeps from intruding on the existing func files but adds needed data that is not normally in the random products array. It was simple to do since X-Cart automatically checks for a function file for any Module that is enabled within Admin.

You will also see that I took the liberty of adding language variables and the facility to enable or disable the Module as well as a configuration entry to set the number of random products.

If I have offended you I am sorry. If you feel that I copied your work, it is not your work - it is Qualiteam's work - plus it is not the same approach that you used. The only two similarities are that it is using X-Cart's recommends.php code and that what you posted here is free as well as what I posted on our site is free.

I received the free download link from Stephen as I truly wanted this to work..... When i applied the SQL patch, it said there was some error, then returned me back to the patch screen.

Anyways, I was wondering, since there was an error, should I revert back to the SQL backup i made prior, or just let it be? Nothing has seemed to change, except i see the option now in admin.

Will this pose any problems. Its the first time i personaly messed with any patches and am a bit concerned...

Is there anyway to have it not randomized?

I just want the Featured Products with a limit of 6 and multiple pages. The problem is when someone clicks onto the next page it randomly selects them again and a customer may never see all of the items if you have more than one page of them. It may display the same six from the first page again on the second page, just in another order.

To go back to the very original post, if you just want to show featured products in a random way you can modify featured_products.php to shuffle the array before assigning it to smarty.

Near the end of featured_products.php just add the line:

shuffle($products); 


immediately before the line:

$smarty->assign("f_products",$products);

I was wondering if anyone had Telafirma's Random product mod. Tried getting off his site, http://www.telafirma.com/store/product.php?productid=16141&cat=252&page=1 but he doesn't seem to be around anymore? Is there a complete code that i can use otherwise to accomplish this? I was getting a bit confused lookin at all of the changes and the addition of steps throughout. Thank you.
