I don't have a formal mod in place for this, I imagine I would have been speaking about theory, but I can't be sure without looking at the actual post. You can use mod_rewrite to create fake static pages, but then you'd have to change all your links. This is essentially what is done with a Dynamic Static Links mod which is available somewhere on the forums, and for all the time it takes you'd be best to purchase the mod.

The mod I am speaking of still uses the HTML catalog, it just creates custom product urls.
