Default Templates, etc

If this isn't the correct area maybe you can point me to the correct area.

First, how do I start editting my template? Is there a comprehensive guide out there that I could view? I'm looking to change my look completely and also move some things around -- where detail images fall, etc.

Second, I want to use the java downdrop script for my left navigation system. Where would I find information about this?

Third, is there a more comprehensive guide to x-cart as a whole besides the manual?

I know HTML and CSS and am sure if I had some reading material I could pick up enough PHP to understand Smarty Templates and how to edit them. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Thank you!

Thanks, I'll keep looking around.

I found a link letting me know I could put the .tpl files into Dreamweaver with some help but I can't find the exact meaning of .tpl -- to change it in Dreamweaver I have to give the full file name.

Template ? Library - .tpl?

I dunno. I'll do a search here as well.

A .tpl file is the files used to make the look and feel of the skin with smarty. The place to find all your .tpl files is to go to admin/edit templates. Then open one of the files copy all the info in that file and paste it into the code view of dreamweaver. I do this with both frontpage and dreamweaver when I edit templates it just depends on what I am doing and which program does it easier. Like for example I use dreamweaver whenever I am trying to add flash as it is easier to add a flash file in dreamweaver then using frontpage. As said though if you open a .tpl file as I explained before you will see little snipets of html and smarty codes and these are the files that make up your sites look and feel.

Thanks lildawg, but I think you misunderstood my question.

what does .tpl stand for? I have to give the full extension name in order to view the files in design view in Dreamweaver.

HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language
CSS - Cascading Style Sheets
TPL - ?

Do you understand what I mean now?
