Default logo.gif
I am using the "small shop" set of templates and I uploaded "logo.gif" to the directory of skins 1 images and it does not change anything.

Any one have any ideas what I am missing ?? Does the small shop use a different directory to store its logo in??

Try logo_gold.gif, logo_pro.gif, xcart_logo.gif or even xlogo.gif and run cleanup.php from the root of your xcart dir, you might want to also clear your browsers cache.
