Resize bmp images not working?
Am I alone with this?
When I upload a product's image and it is a bmp, when clicking the 'Generate thumbnail' image nothing happens i.e. you get this spinning wheel and that was all she wrote. Can't bmp images be used?

This happens on bmp only or all images? Sometimes is just the jquery version you have loaded. Try with a different one

Hi Setve,
This only happens with bmp images it seems. How do you 'try a with a different one' ? Is this a setting or does one need to upload something new, or ..?

Oh bmp. That is not supported by GD library. And by the way why bmp? Images are huge in bmp. You may be able to get it working with somehting like thuis

That's what I figured with the bmp files
 Strangely enough x-cart does 'eat' them - should have been some message/barriere implemented that these files can't be used (at least with the generation of thumbnails). Thanks for the pointer, unfortunately I lack the knowledge to implement this, nobody around having had the same problem and who can help out with a x-cart hack of some sort? I can live with the fact that bmp files can't be used, but need some solution telling my clients they should upload png or jpg files when they add a bmp. I now have certain sections in the shop where the original sized 'thumbnails' are shown due to the bmp image (causing huge images breaking up the shops) - must be happening to others as well I figure.

X-Cart image conversion tool is based on the PHP GD library.
The GD library doesn't support BMP. Only WBMP is supported. The BMP image format is not optimized for the web. To convert the images to a different format you can use e.g. free batch image converter

I understand the issues with bmp files and never use them myself, problem is to get clients stop using them - most of the time they're not even aware they deal with a bmp ...
Most of these clients don't understand conversions as well
