I have just uploaded my site (v. 4.2.2) in a remote test server. I can see the site but without any skin rendering, just plain text and links (as if Smarty doesn't load at all), no colors, no skin, nothing, only the raw content (text, links). I don't get any error.
The server runs on a LInux, Apache,
MySQL version 4.1.22-standard-log
Apache version 2.2.11
PHP version 5.2.9

The var directory and all subdirectories have 777 permissions. (the site in my local pc displays ok)

Any tips?

ok, I solved the problem. I hadn't set the variable $xcart_web_dir in the config.php. What was happening was that the browser found the index.php of my xcart root dir in the right place, but internally the xcart code was looking at the wrong path to find the rest of the code files.
