Is there a way to still show product available for sell even if your inventory is zero. So that people can still buy it with the understanding that they will get it when stock comes in?

In your cart admin section you will find a link for General Settings under that you need to go to General Options and inside you will see a check box that says: Disable products which are out of stock make sure there is no check next to it and hit Update. That should now allow your users to see all items regardless of stock quantity.

By doing this your customer will be able to see the product but there will be no Buy button untill the qauntity is atleast 1
