I have recently discovered that I can add text above and below the tables in x-cart pages by editing the dialog.tpl file. What I DON'T want to happen is for the text I am entering to show up on all of my pages (only the product and products pages, that is what I call product thumbnail pages and product detail pages). Can someone tell me how to apply logic to .tpl pages so my editing will only apply to certain pages?

Either use {if} statements to only show items on product and category pages, or create a duplicate of dialog.tpl and call that from subcategories.tpl and product.tpl.

You would probably be better off to edit the product.tpl and products.tpl pages to add the text you want around the dialogs there.
