The reason for keeping a pixel size is to keep the cart looking good.

Its best to reduce your thumbnails to the size that you want to display them anyway. Say 100 - 150 pixels wide at maximum

I know what you are saying, but my pictures are all very different in size, like 50x200 or 150x80. So if they are all set to 50pix wide, they come out very different. It would look better if they would all be reduced by 30%

My only suggestion to avoid this problem is to use something like fireworks to set the canvas size to something standard like 100x100. Shrink the actual picture first so that it's longest side does not exceed 100 (a 50x200 picture would be reduced to 25x100 to keep the aspect ratio the same). Center the picture on the canvas and then change the canvas size to 100x100. Make the canvas color the same as your page background color. Export it to where you need it. In appearance options make thumbnail width 100. This will keep all of your pictures within a certain size limitation and you can use the fullsize pics (like the 50x200) in the detailed images section.

This is a very good idea Gene, only I hope to find an easier solution because I've got 2000+ pictures. That would be a lot of work.

I know the feeling...this is what I am having to do which is why it is taking me a long time to get my cart up but I wanted some uniformity so I had no choice. If you come up with the magic solution let me know.

You could just set the width of the images as this is the main thing that will keep your products in a neat line.

You could use fireworks or similar to run a batch process on all the files and set them all to say 100 pixels wide

if you dont have fireworks grab a trial copy at

If you know enough about photoshop you can set up an action that will do it for you within minutes.

You can also record a command to do this in Fireworks and batch process all of your images. Do a search on the Macromedia forums for the method as I have used it before but I am no expert.

The only problem with that is if one image is 50x200 and you have another that is 200 x50 what you end up getting is one picture that is very large and one that is vey small. If you set the canvas size to 100x100 in fireworks then all of the pictures are made to fit within this 100x100 square so that the picture that was 50x200 is now 25x100 and the picture that was 200x50 is now 100x 25 and they stay relatively the same size. The first way if you just go for a width of 100 you end up with a picture that is 100x400 and another that is 100x25...very disturbing differences.
