Talking found a basic workaround for 'melding' content/shop cats in same menu
well, maybe I didn't "discover" it but it's helped me, and if I'd found this in a search, I would've saved myself ooodles of time. What I wanted for my menu was

Content link
Shop category
shop category
content link
content link

etc.

A real simplified way I've found of doing this is to simply create a new 'category' and paste my content into the cat description and simply not add any products, duh! I wish this had occured to me sooner.

So now, under a single menu, I've got exactly what i was looking for!
