Default editing templates for the visually impaired

I'm being asked by a client to start conforming their sites (x-cart ones as well) to the rules and regs that are covering all Business websites in the UK now.

Does anyone have any experience in this with x-cart yet.

From what I can see I have to make sure that all alt tags in images or in and make sense AND im going to have to stop the site useing CSS and go back to the old style <font size> tags so that the visually impaired person can use the vie/text size in internet explorer.

Does anyone else have any suggestions??

Have you got a link to the official document? From what i have heard it's more about presentation.

It's a seriously messed up regulation just like anything to do with the net in the UK, written up by people that have no clue.

You really want to get the skin swap modifcation in there and offer a secondary skin for the visually impaired which is high contrast, big fonts.

Look up the net for a "Screen reader" which you can use to listen to how a blind person will understand the site.

I wouldn't fancy having to make x-cart conform but I've a feeling that's going to come my way soon too.

This is going to be a bit of a nightmare if they start clamping down on this law. I've heard a lot about it but not yet seen any "official" documents and guidance.
