Hi

Does anyone know where the settings is to stop the product 'magnified image' as the items we are selling don't require it .

I don't think there is a setting for this. I personally find it annoying. It would have been why better to have inside magnifying instead of popup like this on hover.
You can get one of the MagicZoom modules though. I believe they have different sets of settings to just about any preference.

The zoom function should disable itself for small product images. I guess you upload hi-res images, and this enables the function.

You may turn the zoom function completely by creating a simple custom module that overrides the \XLite\View\Product\Details\Customer\Image::define HasZoomImage() method and makes it return FALSE all the time.
