Has anyone used this module with success? I cannot get it to generate the eBay Token and one tech says i need a security certificate installed on my domain before this can work. I have read the manual and it does not say this, can anyone shed light on why the Token cannot be generated?

I don't know about the eBay module but you cannot do eCommerce without SSL, that's for sure.
SSL is mandatory for any personal or financial data you will be asking your customers to provide. Even a simple contact us form has to be under secure protocol
