I can't fix my 404 page

Has "Company Name" literally, and an extraneous old logo in the header.
And "Powered by X-Cart shopping cart software" shows up bottom left footer, though removed from main/prnotice.tpl

Type /anything, after the URL, to get the 404

I did upload a 404.html and added this line to .htaccess -
ErrorDocument 404 /404.html

but still goes to 404.php

Use firebug in FireFox and you should have no problem finding what to change.

Just replace the skin1/404 html page with yours

Yes, I HAVE been using Firebug - I use it religiously, but just having issues fixing the page still. Thought an outside perspective would help.

Does anyone know how to make the 404 page dynamic?

Obviously you can change skin1/404 html, however if any menu's/ navigation is updated then it's not reflected on the static html page.

I've tried using:

ErrorDocument 404 /my404page.php

in .htaccess so I can create and configure my own dynamic 404 page however it's always over-ridden by the xcart default

Ditto. This 404 page sucks.

I'd like to make it at least look like the real page. Plus I'd love to through in my Carousel program, so that products appear on it.

Does the 404.html contain the header information as well?

1. create a static page "page-not-found.html" in admin

2. view "page-not-found.html" your browser > view source > select all > copy code

3. download skin1/404/404_en.html > edit it and paste in code from above > upload

4. disable your static "page-not-found.html" in admin. elect not to show it in your static page section.

5. suggest you edit robots.txt and disallow indexing of "page-not-found.html"

6. For future updates of 404_en.html (eg. if your side menu change etc) > enable "page-not-found.html" in admin > do steps 2 - 4 above
