Default Editing templates

Forgive me if this has been covered already. I did a search, and found no results that I wanted.

I just installed X-Cart and want to start customizing the templates. What is the best way to do this? How do I use the "smarty" feature? I currently use DreamWeaver MX for all my web editing...is this the way to go? I started doing a little that way, but it looks like that may be the hard way to go about it. I was just curious what the best route was in editing.

Thanks!

This is the Similar to the Question I asked First.

Dreamweaver is very good to work with. You can Also use Microsoft Frontpage but make sure you clear all html codes which are already in html section by default like Content and all that stuff in html area.

You have to go to your administration area and edit templates. You will see head.tpl which allows you to change the look of header of your website. Remember, Always Copy and Paste smary codes directly in Html view not normal view in frontpage or in dreamweaver, if you place it in normal view it will change codes for quotations and all that and will not work.

You have to turn Webmaster Mode (Safe Mode). Than go to customer/home.php there you will see all the templates for different parts of website including menu, middle part, top and bottom. Just edit them simply and make a change. MAKE SURE ALWAYS KEEP THE COPY OF THE CODE YOU ARE EDITING. If you open any tpl window just hit - ctrl + N to open up new backup window. If you do anythign wrong you will recover that.

Hope it helps.

What exactly does the smarty thing do?

So to edit this thing, I need to manually go thru with Dreamweaver? Seems like a lot of work to me.

Thanks!

Nah, it's not much work really.

Follow this:

Administration Area - Webmaster Mode - Turn Webmaster Mode (Safe Mode)
Safe Mode Allows you to change All the Templates (Look). It will open up small window with list of templates on page you are viewing.

After Turning it on click on open customer area in new window.

From there you will see folder list in small window which are in your customer/home.php

Edit them One by One to Make a Change.

Those are the Codes in tpl. Smarty will show you codes. But to see Preview of how that code will look, You will have to paste it in dreamweaver or frontpage editor where you can make changes.

It's just like Html. In Frontpage where you can see Normal View and Html View and Preview.

So Smary is basically Html View. Therefore You have to paste Smary PHP Code in Html view and go to Normal View back to see the look and make changes in that look.

Than you just get back to html view and copy and paste that code back into smary tpl.
