My store has a black background and as anyone else with a black backround will know -a lot of text boxes and notes will not be viewable.After fiddling around with some of the CSS a compromise can be reached using grey text etc but it's not ideal and altering code so various text appears in a separate box with it's own background is also messy.
Anyone have a solution to the black background issues ??

I don't know about changing colors, but I just changed the whole design of my website using a different skin. I couldn't tell you how to do it myself as I was following directions in the online manual. It has to do with changing your install.xxxxxx.php to install.php and then loading that up on your browser your.com/xcart/install.php and then putting in your special code and clicking on reinstall skin. I wish there were a way to preview the skins before doing all this, but anyway thought this might help you as a lead?
