Default seeking CSS template feedback

I have a fresh install of 4.1.4 and I'm a complete Smarty newbie. I have intermediate knowledge of CSS. I've heard that modifying the default skin takes a huge learning curve. I've also seen that there is a 3rd party CSS template ( http://www.cart-lab.com/X-Cart-version-41x-CSS-Template-p-113.html# ) and I was hoping to hear from anyone who has actually used it. How easy was it to implement? How well are the CSS files documented? Is it relatively easy to go through and see what styles are responsible for various elements, or is it a big guessing game?

I emailed cart-lab a week ago and I haven't heard anything back. (Which doesn't instill me with great confidince.)

While I'm sure it is a great template and CSS is definitely the preferred method for web site design, using a pure CSS template will cause major problems for upgrades/add-ons since X-Cart is table-based. You would need to patch/upgrade each template manually, and many add-ons would need to be also done manually. Until X-Cart 4.1 becomes 'stable' I don't think you will find too many people who want to cause more headaches then they will already have trying to keep up with the patches
