I'm setting up a site that will have a mix of products. Some of the products will be normal (ie we'll display and sell them). Others, we need to display them, show lots of information about them but display no price (they have to call us or come in to the store).

I've played around with zero prices, various options - but can't get it to work.

Has anybody done this before?

I would suggest turning on inventory tracking and set the quantity of the products you want to prevent purchase on to zero.

I too have some products that I wish to sell and some that I wish only to display.

I do not want to use the inventory control options because I will never run out of inventory. If I turn inventory control on I am going to have to constantly update the site with fake large numbers so that items for sale are always available .

Does any one else know a way to disable some products from sale while still displaying them?

If you set the other product quantities 999999 this will work fine. If you sell that many of an item you can afford to pay someone to do a mod for you
